What to watch out for -- ONLINE SCAMS
It might be a scam if...
- It's just too good to be true - A free car just for taking a survey? A laptop computer for a single mouse click? It really is TO GOOD TO BE TRUE because IT'S NOT.
- You're a winner...but - Don't click on these ads. Chances are they are SPAMMERS and will request money to claim your prize.
- Don't click on these ads. Chances are they are SPAMMERS and will request money to claim your prize.
- It's free with shipping and handling - This one, we've proven. There are legitimately sites out there that want to get their products on the market, but shipping and handling is reasonable, say $5 to $7. MAKE SURE the shipping and handling is not $59.95!
- There's a lot of fine print - We strongly recommend reading the fine print when you sign up for anything. You will have to agree to all those terms, even the "fees" they hide in the pages and pages of text that you don't want to read through.
- You must give a credit card number - If you have to give a credit card number to get the "free" item, there's a chance it's a scam. There is an exception when it comes to "trial periods."
- There's a free "trial period" - Again, this one can be true. Check the fine print. If you sign up for a trial period, make sure you know how to cancel it once the period is over. Know what the time period is for the service, and write it in your calendar to end it the day before it actually ends. If you have given them a credit card number to get the trial period, you will be charged the fee as soon as the trial period ends.
